Here are 5 simple ways to incorporate mathematics into gameplay-from counting to angles!
1. Tally
Create a tally chart and compare:
- Geometric Shapes vs Organic Shapes
- Triangles vs Ovals
- Lines vs Shapes
- One color vs another color
2. Addition
Roll a die twice. Add the two numbers together. The sum is how many marks, shapes, or lines you must draw.
3. Odd or Even
Skip the die and choose either odd or even. If a card calls for an odd number, just switch it to even!
- Odd = Draw an odd number of marks, shapes or lines.
- Even = Draw an even number of marks, shapes or lines.
4. Measure
Grab a ruler and measure the length of different lines in your artwork.
- Which line is the longest?
- Which line is the shortest?
- What is the total length of all lines combined?
5. Identify Angles
Look closely at the lines and shapes you've created.
Can you find:
- Acute angles
- Right angles
- Obtuse angles
Count how many of each angle appear in your artwork.
